I guess if there was one good thing that ultimately came out of the Cubs season it was Soto. This is the first time the Cubs have a solid young catcher that they can have for a long time. Soto is the first catcher to win rookie of the year in either league since Mike Piazza in 1993. It shows you just how big of an impact he had on the Cubs immediately this season.
Soto hit .285 with 23 hr's, 35 doubles and 86 rbi's. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to make the difference for the Cubs in October. As he went just 2 for 11 with no rbi's. But while I feel the Cubs need to make a lot of changed, Soto is someone that will definitely stick around for a long time.
There at times were even brief mentions that Soto should be NL MVP. While I think that's a major stretch, it truly shows how much of a key player he was for the Cubs. If nothing else, it's debatable whether he was the best player on the Cubs this season or not.
While this was obvious that he would win, I guess it's nice that someone on the Cubs got rewarded for their performance in the regular season. Soto, I think is the perfect option for that.

I think Sot was the favorite to win the NL Rookie of the Year, so it wasn't surprising to me when he won it.
This is the one good thing that came out of the past season.
Teams are judged by their performance in the playoffs, and the Cubs haven't gotten it done the past 2 years.
To not win a game is an embarassment. While Soto was a stud during the regular season, he to didn't hit in the playoffs.
I don't know if the Cubs felt the pressure of not winning in 100 years or what, but something needs to change for next year. I told many people that if the Cubs lost game 1 they would lose the series, and they did because the pressure increased tremendously.
Also what are your thoughts on the Cubs pursuit of Jake Peavy? Is he really that much of an upgrade over Dempster?
I'm curious as to why Soto was actually able to win Rookie of the Year. Didn't he play in 2007? Also, who do you think would have won the league rookie of the year, Longoria or Soto? I'm saying Longoria.
I am so excited that Soto one. What a season he had! Great news!
